Type Specimen Website

Exploring Bauhaus-inspired Design Through a Custom HTML and CSS Type Specimen Website

For my Computers for Design class, I developed a type specimen website using HTML and CSS in Visual Studio Code, spotlighting the Chillax Variable Font. Chillax is a geometric sans-serif typeface that merges the 1920s modernist aesthetics of Bauhaus with a contemporary twist. Designed by Manushi Parikh, Chillax reimagines Herbert Bayer’s ‘Universal’ alphabet, incorporating unicase influences and adding versatile uppercase letters. Ideal for large-scale display applications, this typeface offers predefined weights and a customizable Variable Font format for precise stroke control. With over 440 glyphs supporting European languages and stylistic alternates inspired by Bauhaus architecture, Chillax combines decorative appeal with exceptional legibility, making it perfect for editorial design, apps, or headline settings.
